dusting and adding more memory

after I cleaned and added two memory sticks to my pc it won't start but the fan won't cut off . WHy is this?

What did you use to clean it.? Did you here any beeps..? Anyway I agree with Larry, remove the most recent memory stick that you added and boot. If your pc operates normally, than you can reinsert those new modules. If same problem persists, try reseating that new modules. I think that should do the trick..

Re-seating will not help.
If problem persists after re-installing, you either have bad RAM
or wrong RAM.

High pressure air can cause ESD damage. Normally high volume low pressure is safer. Also vacuum cleaners can cause ESD unless special for electronics.

Oddly enough the cans of ozone depleting freon seem to work OK. (other than killing us)

Not necessarily, I've seen some cases that the solution is as simple as reseating the module. However, if reseating doesn't fix the problem after 2 or 3 attempt, there might be a possibility that you are having a bad module.
