Hi all
I currently have an emachine in for upgrade,
the person wants a second vga output.
Being an emachine means it has onboard graphics and no agp slot.
What pci card does any one recomend to allow dual monitor , preferably with s-video output?

cheers
Jr

Both the onboard video and the added card must be compatible with Windows support for two (or more) display adapters, whether the onboard video can be disabled or not (unless there is a jumper for that) - sometimes one or both are not compatible with that standard.

Your choices are a dual-headed pci card (with onboard agp disabled) or a single-headed pci card (with the onboard agp still used).

Whatever you get, chances are since its a low performance machine you do not need a lot of gpu power with the new card. Anything on this page will suffice.

Here is the best pci card. You'll need to select "dvi-to-crt converter" option and "pci" option on the bottom of the screen if you want it

Someone may point out that pci video is not as good as agp video due to the slower pci bus, but the gating factor in pci cards (up until the radeon 9100 pci) is the fact that they need more electrical power than a pci slot delivers. The 9100 is a fast card but comsumes little power, making it about twice as fast as the 2nd place pci vid card.

Thanks all for the replies
The mx440 pci looks like a winner there Johnoh , the pc is not for games so performance isnt an issue,it just needed a second output , having no agp slot to start with was the difficult bit i didnt realise they still made pci cards.
Thanks again
