I am dual booting winxp and ubuntu 8.4 using GRUB as bootloader. But if i want to reinstall winxp, probably it would not show boot choice. What would be the solution to this problem?

A boot loader or other OS chooser is what determines what partition and sometimes the OS to load.
Either Grub or MS's boot loader can load either OS if you read the hundreds of how to's already written.
There are plenty of other loaders to choose from also.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

1) Do you have a live linux cd ? 2) Do you have a floppy disk drive ? 3) Did you use linux's GRUB/LILO ,XP or third party boot manager to select OS ? 4) Do you plan on doing a clean (format) or repair install of XP ?
