dual processor motherboards

i have recently been looking at computer parts on newegg. com for a custome computer i want to build. i was goin to get a single processor motherboard with a 3.6 GHz intel processor but then i heard about dual processor mother boards. my questions is, if i get a dual processor motherboard can it it run faster than 3.6 GHz and how fast can it go?

Dual CPU boards offer no advantage for "normal" computing...they're generally used for servers or work stations

also, you were probably looking at Pentium 4 processors, there are no dual P4 motherboards
you are going to have to go to the Intel Xeon processors which are pricey and not really even necessary

another option would be a dual Pentium3 setup- they still have P3 processors at newegg.com so i imagine you could get the parts needed for a decent price

then there's AMD opteron dual processor setups but that's another server oriented cpu

common sense isn't very common

You also need software that is written to take advantage of the dual processors. There is VERY little of that around right now.

I have a friend in Las Vegas who recently put his dual Xeon rig up against 4 AMD rigs.
He was folding for PC Club on all the machines and bottom line was that the dual Xeon rig would cover 3 AMD's but not 4.
