Comment:

I would like to run dual monitors. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 4mx420, Intel pentium 4 (R) cpu 2.53 and 2- GB ram, 533 FSB with XP Home Service pack 3. I want to use 2- 15in flat screen montiors. Will another card like mine or close to it work or do I need one with dual vga ports? I don't need a top of the line card as I don't play games on this puter, and I don't want to have to change the cpu if I don't have to. Can anybody point me in the right direction on this please and what card will I need either way. Also is there a program I need to run this setup with ease and more fun then problems? Thanks, Advenger

assuming you have a AGP slot on motherboard the easiest thing to do is buy one of these on ebay they dont cost much
Matrox G400 Dual Head 16mb
Matrox G450 Dual Head 16mb
Matrox G400 Dual Head 32mb
Matrox G450 Dual Head 32mb
They have two blue monitor sockets on them.
XP has drivers built in to run as two monitor setup.
I suspect you might get more configuration options if you load the Matrox drivers from their website

There are also other AGP cards available with dual head capability. One is linked below. You can also install a PCI card and run it along side your present card.

The dualhead is a more elegant solution. If you get any dualhead card you should be able to use the software written for the type of graphic chip it is based on. IE- Matrox, nVidia, ATI.

You MUST also verify any card you get is compatible with the version of the AGP slot on your motherboard. Yours is most likely 8x which normally is backward compatible with 4x cards. To determine either check your specs or look at the picture link below. Note the divider bars in the slot that are in different positions in the different versions of the AGP standard.

If you are using an LCD display you need to be sure that the card will support your monitors. Especially if the monitor is digital and that is the connection type.
