I was told a couple posts ago that having Dual DDR with equal memory say 2 sticks of identical 512 is a better performer than have all 3 slots full of 512 mem.

So in effect 1024mb would run better performance than 1536mb. Is this true?

Your RAM will still run dual channel with three sticks, but I have seen many reviews that notice a drop in overall memory bandwidth when running three sticks, even more so when each channel has a different amount. Besides that, there is no game out there that will take advantage of 1.5GB, let alone 1GB.

More memory will only speed up your system if the programs that you are running use up all the memory that you have available. That forces the system to use the swap file which slows things down. So if all the programs that you normally run use less than 1024mb of memory (which is likely for most users), there will be no difference in performance between 1024mb and 1536mb.

I think something's being ignored here. everything said here is correct but the effect on bandwidth with dual channel DDR is impressive. the actual amount of memory is separate from how long the computer takes to move data from point a to b.

some MB's come with 1 dual and 1 single channel DDR but the real fliers are 2 dual channel DDR schemes.

yah games probably won't use more than 512MB memory for now but that will likely change. But in a real time situation, dual channel ddr will first double the bandwidth over comparable sdram and having dual ddr effectively quadruples the bandwidth over comparable sdram.
