Subject: Dual channel?OS: Vista Ultimate 64-bitCPU/Ram: Pentium D 920/G.Skill DDRModel/Manufacturer: Custom |
Comment: Hi, i am currently thinking of upgrading my ram from 1gb to 2gb because vista is using 700+mb idle. Will dual channel give me good performance vs single channel? Can i use any brand to pair with it? I multitask and run lots of apps. If i just wanted another stick does it have to have the same pc2-xxxx? or can it be higher or lower. I know that the speed of the memory stick usually doesn't matter. thanks Specs Intel Pentium D 920 -FSB 800 MHz nForce 4 SLi 410/430 MCP Current Ram: G.Skill ddr2 667 PC2-5400

Reply: (edit)"Current Ram: G.Skill ddr2 667 PC2-5400" You don't necessarily have to get G.Skill, but it would be best to get another 1GB stick of DDR2-667 with the same voltage requirements as the one you have.

Reply: (edit)Yes, if your board supports dual channel mode & you install the RAM in the correct slots. But don't expect any earth shattering difference between dual & single channel mode. Vista is a memory hog & you'll be doubling your memory amount...THAT is what will improve performance.
