In most cases, there is an option in your BIOS to either enable or disable dual channel support.

As to why you want to do that... uh... why would you? :P

I'm just curious. Would the setting have to do with the the MTRR Mapping Mode being DISCRETE or CONTINOUS?

Apparently you've got the MS - 7093 M-ATX board in that eMachine T6212, and to run in single channel mode you have three ways of installing the ram modules.

You have 4 DIMM slots, #1 & #2 (blue DIMMs) and #3 & #4 (black DIMMs). You either use DIMM #1 only, DIMM #3 only or DIMM #1 & #3 only.

Hope you get my drift, since you are aware of the bottleneck, am not even going to bother going into that issue.

Error 404 - Oops !!!.

Dual chanell is a hardware configuration issue..

You mobo should by rights have a 3 or 4 dim ram configuaration.

Swaping the ram modules from a 1 & 3 setup to a 1 & 2 setup will in fact give you single chanell operation... but why would you ?

Exactly, it's a configuration issue, not a BIOS setting. If you have 4 DIMM slots, 2 will be one color (let's say black) & the other 2 will be another color (let's say purple). If you put 2 matching sticks of RAM in either the 2 black or 2 purple slots, they'll run in dual channel mode...if you put one stick in a black slot & one in a purple slot, they'll be in single channel mode. This should be explained in the manual....

Its a hardware configuration for them ghetto mobos... :P Some newer ones can disable dual channel in the BIOS despite where you put the sticks of ram.

On my msi board single channel is denoted by 'same colour' dimms
Dual channel is used by placing ram in different coloured dimms.

It's weird cause I went to the Crucial website for the mem config, and it suggested the Kingston memory, which i latered purchased from Tigerdirect. But the memory restarts my computer and gives me error messages(blue screens of death). And when I put only the Kingston in, the PC won't start. This is the second set of Kingston that does this. Any ideas!?

yes I do have

Untill late last year I used kingston and kingmax, almost on an exclusive basis...

For some unknown reason almost all the modules i got did not work, or didnt last on the more advanced board with dual chnale config..

May have been a bad batch etc, who knows.

I have since chnaged over to Corsair, and funny enough the value select sereis is currently rated as the best perfomance, value for money, ram on the market for general pc configuration....

It is possible that the board or soemthing doesnt like the ram, or the configuration you have...

I would suggest you reset the bios back to fail safe deafults, insatll any new bios version that are for your board, set the bios up again in line whith the way it should be and try booting up..

Thanks for the reply. I guess i will call tigerdirect back since this was the ram they told me would work! Ebay has some cheap Hynix mem, might go with 2 more sticks of that and give that a shot.

The BIOS default setting for DRAM Config is AUTO, 2.5 greyed out. So I changed it to MANUAL and set it to 3. But my PC still would do the samething with the Kingston or the Hynix. So I had to take the battery out of the mobo for an hour to reset it back to AUTO. I'm just gonna return the Kingston and go with the 4 Hynix or try the Corsair. Thanks for all of the replies!
