Reply: (edit)The safest way to be sure to get memory modules that will work in dual channel mode is to purchase memory labeled as dual channel. You can identify this by the way it is speced. For instance 512MB of PC3200 will say in parantheses (2 x 256). This means you are buying 2 - 256MB modules. It is possible to simply buy two modules that are exactly the same specs and most likely this will work. there is no difference in the memory itself. You are simply running two memory controllers each with identical sticks. In the case of Intel boards I believe you can pair up 2 pairs of memory modules on opposing channels. With AMD you are only allowed one pair.

Reply: (edit)Dual channel mode takes two sticks of RAM & treats them as one, theoretically doubling the thoughput (bandwidth)...that's why they need to be identical (or damn close). Two sticks of 256mb PC3200 in dual mode are treated as 512mb PC6400...in single channel mode, they'd be treated as 512mb PC3200. Asus A7N8X-X 1800+ @8x210mhz 512mb PC3200 Ti4200/8X 128mb WDC 60GB
