hi,

ok i wanted to know if i were to buy a new HD and then install win2k on it can i then use my current HD on the secondary IDE cable and us that as just backup HD?

what i mean is that i have winme on the current HD and alot of stuff on it that will take me forever to copy onto CD so i thought why not leave that stuff on it and then buy a new HD etc etc...

can i do that? and transfer stuff from old HD to new HD?
----------------------

oh and by the way I think there might be something wrong with my CDrom drive, listen to this and see if thats what u think too..

I can play a CD but the very last track jumps but not on my hifi, then when i often open the drive it likes to close it more or less stright ofterwards...
and i noticed that sometimes i can hear a loud buzzing noice coming from it and it won't stop for a long while...
r these symtoms? i have a asus 50x.

cheers for ne help :D

to the first question: thats no prob.
buy a new HD.
then set the jumpers of the old one to secondary slave.
put the new HD in, set jumpers to master.

now start your pc with win2k boot cd and install it on the new HD.

now your PC will allways boot from the new HD and will ignore WinME on the old one.

ya can then copy stuff all over you want :P

about the 2nd one, not sure why that is, perhaps the Audio CD got a protection...

For Windows, I prefer Win98SE. For Linux, I prefer Mandrake Linux 9.0 Powerpack Edition. I dual boot using System Commander Personal Edition for the boot selector/loader. I also have things spread out over 4 HDs.
