DSL-2740B config screen wont open

January 24, 2012 at 02:07:50
Specs: Windows 7
I have upgraded my netcomm NB6Plus4W to a Dlink DSL-2740B. Internet Explorer stopped letting me access the router after a few times (cannot display the webpage). I downloaded Firefox and was able to get the configuration screen to open but it now can't access the router either. The same scenario occurred when I connected the router to my laptop as well.

Dlink tech support said I should contact microsoft regarding IE... I dont subscribe to that theory...

Anyone encountered same or similar?

If you have a third-party firewall installed, it may be blocking access to that IP address (for reasons best known to itself). So just to test that theory, temporarily disable the firewall and see if that makes any difference.

If that does not help, that IP address may have been placed in the HOSTS file alongside your computer's IP address. That would prevent you from opening that page.
The HOSTS file is located at: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

Thanks for the response. I failed to mention that I had disabled windows firewall in an effort to troubleshoot the problem and it did not help.

I am not seeing the IP address in a hosts file. Interestingly, if I plug my old router back in and type in routers same IP) it has no problem accessing the router...
