Hello and thanks in advance for all help and insight. I have dsl and it has been running around 315 kpps, half of what it should. I have filters on all of the phone jacks where phones are being used, no fax machines or anything else attached to my phones. My question is, my children have 2 computers that they access the internet by dial up but there are no filters on those phone jacks. Could this be my problem? I don't want to be charged for a tech support call if there is a problem that I can fix myself. I want to spend my hard earned cash on better computer goodies than that! As always...thanks for being here, you're all great!

You need filter on the dial up connections as well as dial up uses the same frequencies as a telephones and fax machines.

The absence of a filter and the modem lines could possible by interning with the DSL signal.

Why not invest in a DSL router. This will give you and your children DSL access and will do away with the dial up altogether.

Thanks all, I have a router that I was having problems installing, that's how I discovered that I was only running on half speed. I am going with wired. I'm going to go try unplugging their computers to see if that will help. I'm up for a wild goose chase at the moment! Thanks again!

The speed of a DSL line is also due to the quality of the phone lines. It use to be if you were more than 18000 feet from the central office you could not get DSL service. If your building has old lines the signal may be degraded by stray loads. My speed almost doubled when I bypassed the original phone lines from the entrance to the modems location. About 60 plus feet of 50 year old wire. I would check the speed with as much of the other phones and fax disconnected. Also the testing site and the overall internet load will make a difference. You have to test at different times of day. A variation of 50% is normal.
