Specs: Windows XP sp3, N/A
I want to install dsl internet at home and I have a Cisco Catalyst 2950 desktop switch at work that is not being used (still in original packaging) Is this something I can use instead of buying a dsl modem?

No. That is a switch, not a modem. You can connect it to a modem to distribute your DSL connection, but you still need the modem to get online.
