Specs: Windows Vista
i have a gateway laptop, model ML 6703. was recently dropped. screen is a total loss. I was doing some work on it to clean up the hard drive. using an external monitor. which worked fine, for a while. After the hdd cleanup and final restart the external monitor would show the boot and loading windows screen. however after that the monitor flickers and goes dark as if it lost signal. the screen on the laptop remains lit up but you cant see anything due to the damage. If I force a shutdown by holding the pwr button and turn it back on i can put windows in safe mode to post this but i have very limited use of the mission.

Vista safe mode has a resolution of 800 x 600 which is probably lower than what it's set for in normal mode. If the screen works OK in safe mode but not normal mode then maybe you reset the resolution in normal mode to something the monitor can't handle. You could try changing the resolution in safe mode to 800 x 600 so it boots that way in normal mode. If you then boot to normal mode at 800 x 600 and the screen image holds then you can experiment with a higher resolution.

Edit Oh, here's some details on changing resolution via safe mode:

If that's not it, it's either a driver issue or some other problem associated with it being dropped.

Don't forget to preorder your Hatch green chili for this fall. Many vendors ship world-wide.
