I have a used Dell laptop I bought. It all worked accept it would only power on when plugged in. Im not too great with laptops so I don't know if its something serious or not. It fell off the desk onto carpet. it didn't show any damage or scratches but when I plugged it in, it wouldn't powr on. The lights started blinking like normal but when I hit the power button they shut off and nothing happend? if I need to take it to be repaired, are they very expensive?

My guess is it would cost more to fix than to replace. Since I don't know the model it may be that a cheap netbook would suite your needs, have a warranty too. Even the cheap laptops are pretty good. A darn near great one is only $600 or so. I'd never buy a used laptop unless it was only $25 or so.

Kind of difficult to guess what to do. It might be worth taking it apart just to see if any connectors or daughterboards have fallen off.

I dropped a $2000 laptop one time. A guy next to me said next year they would make them out of rubber. Didn't think it was funny at the time.
