Dropped Dell laptop wont boot to BIOS

February 26, 2010 at 13:47:16
Specs: Windows Vista
Have a Dell Studio 15 laptop that was dropped
a few feet.

LCD screen is broken.

After it fell an external monitor could be used
to display picture.

Now the problem is the computer will only boot
up once out of 30-50 tries.

When Power Button is pressed the lights flash
on, cd-rom drive spins up...

but that's about it, after 10seconds nothing

When it DOES boot up, the hard drive light
indicator will start flashing, and continue to
boot in to windows normally.

Have disassembled the laptop, checked
connections, HDD, memory...

Everything seems to check out OK...

So what could it be?

... can you enter the (click >>) bios with/without problems?

... try it with the harddrive removed a few times to see if it makes any difference.

... whoops just re-read your thread tittle

... I take it you popped out the cmos battery and reseated it!

... try <F12> key for bios .... source
