One day my CD-Rom and CD-RW drives are no longer detected by my computer. I have no idea where/what to check to find what's wrong. any ideas? Thanks much
1. No CDROM listed in Device Manager or My Computer 2. Device Manager shows yellow ! on Hard Disk Controllers 3. Performance shows drives running in MS-DOS Compatibility mode
WHAT TO DO
1. Go to Device Manager 2. Click first entry in Hard Disk Controllers, which will be for PCI BUS Master IDE Controller 3. Click Properties and then Settings 4. In Dual IDE Channel Settings, choose "BOTH IDE Channels enabled"
5. Run REGEDIT and search for NOIDE 6. It will be here if you have it in your registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\VXD\IOS 7. Look on right hand screen for NOIDE and delete it, if found
Try that first. Other possibility is a boot sector virus which causes CDROMs to go missing in Windows.
I have same problem after removing blaster worm. device manager says "can,t load drivers missing or corrupt" despite reloading a clean driver. Tried Krystyna,s help but no IOS in vxd registry. What next? Donald
