Driver crashing, then not, did GTS 250 fix itself?

Specs: Windows 7 U, Athlon II 255/4GB DDR3
I installed a GTS250 in my sons computer, upgrading his 9600 gt, which worked fine. When I refreshed WEI, the driver crashed and recovered within a few seconds. Then when opening Chrome w/20+ tabs it crashed again. I uninstalled the driver and installed the latest from NVidia, in safe mode (just to be "safe"), but still the problem continued. Once it didn't recover and I had to reset the comp. It probably crashed about 6-8 times in under 1 hour. I downloaded GPU-Z, to see if it was overheating, it wasn't. But after installing GPU-Z it stopped crashing. I had my son play his most taxing games, I ran IBT and performance test 8.0 and it works great.

Now we can't get it to crash. Any ideas why/how this could happen? My only guess is maybe something (some dust?) was shorting the card and now it isn't?

Guess we aren't complaining, just kinda weird.

Just teething problems, as with most new things.
