Connect the drive and then run a hard drive fitness test on it from the manufacturers website.
Also look for the drive in Windows Disk Management. If the drive shows up there then highlight the listing and then post all the information listed for that drive.
If you only hear a couple of sounds then the drive may be OK. Crashed heads click constantly. If the bearings are seized then the drive doesn't rotate at all.
The hard drive may have a format not recognized by Windows. Like a drive out of a TiVo.
