hey guys
i went in to bios dram frquency giving me 3 option to choose 266mhz 333mhz and 400mhz which one should i select?
my cpu is p4 2.4 ghz northwood a
ddr ram 256mb pc2100

That should explain some.

Also,
What was the default setting? You could trial/error with some risk. Start with 266, if it works, try 333 for a minute or two. Feel the memory chips to see if gets hot real fast, and if it does, shut off the pc and put it back. I can't say a whole lot because I can't work with it directly.

It is designed to run at the 266mhz

If you've got a 2.4A P4, that means you have a 100MHz (FSB) Northwood based processor.

You'll get best peformance when the CPU:DRAM ratio is 1:1.

PC1600 = 200MHz effective, 100MHz actual
PC2100 = 266MHz effective, 133MHz actual
PC2700 = 333MHz effective, 166MHz actual
PC3200 = 400MHz effective, 200MHz actual
