When using Bittorrent or similar to download a file, I find that when I then try to browse the web it is very very slow but a mate has a underpowered laptop has no problems when doing this??

nosmo.try limiting your UPLOAD speed. On Verizon 1.5 service I limit the upload to about 10 kB/s when I'm browsing and at 40 when not. Your settings may be different but lowering that should help

Not sure of the exact info in the article I linked to but you can be affected by Comcast even if you use a different ISP. Your request can still pass thru a Comcast server somewhere along the line. VErison may be shaping thier packet also. Sure sounds like you have this problem.

I have concerns with Bit-torrent.
Recently my pc seemed slow and I found amount of bytes being sent were considerable, almost the same as those received. I am talking tens of millions of bytes.
Bit-torrent was not in use at the time, but showing as active in task manager.
Stopping bit-torrent reduced sending way down.
I changed bit-torrent such that it no longer loads on start-up and now regularly run Spybot.
