dot4_plugin.exe has stopped working

Specs: Windows 7
I am trying to reinstall HP Officejet All In One J4680 printer/scanner. I have tried using the drivers from the HP site as well as the installation disc. I keep getting error message dot4.exe_plugin is not working and all drivers uninstall. Nothing on HP site is helping. I have Windows 7 OS.

All I could find was someone with that problem managed to get around it by copying the entire CD contents to the hard drive and installing from that copy instead of from the CD.

I have my doubts it will work for you since you've already tried installing from a downloaded driver package, but it won't do any harm to try it anyway.

Thanks - I ended up going to and using the printer installation wizard from their site. I can now print but still no scanning. So frustrating!! Thanks for your help.
