The computer the printer is directly connected to, and all computers you want to share the printer with, must have File and Printer Sharing enabled.
You only need to install the software for the printer on the computer it is directly connected to.
You must install the printer software properly according to the proper installation directions.
You DO NOT plug in the USB connection from the printer to the computer until you have installed the software and are then prompted to plug in the USB connection.
You DO NOT point Windows to where the drivers are for the printer are when Found New Hardware pops up, you have it search for drivers, and it doesn't find any, before the software for the printer is installed.
The drivers needed for the printer on the computers that are not directly connected to the printer are installed automatically over the network connections, however, THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN INSTANTLY initially, the computer(s) you want to share the printer with and the computer the printer is directly connected to have to be running, and the printer must be powered on, initially.
E.g. it may take, say, 15 minutes for the drivers to be installed completely, and for the printer model to appear in Printers and Faxes or similar as a network printer (labeled AUTO), on the computers the printer is not connected directly to.
That network printer that was auto installed on the computers the printer is not directly connected to must be made the Default printer - it is by default if it's the only printer listed., but it may not be if more than one is listed.
E.g. you installed the software for the printer on the Windows 7 computer when the printer was directly connected to it - that directly connected printer installation is now the default printer on that computer.
