Ok my current system is only a year old but when it was built it was obsolete already so I am planning to update my stuff. This is my current system:
Gigabyte Nforce 2 Pro Mobo
AMD Barton 2500
Chaintech Nvidia FX5200 256MB
80GB, 120GB HD'sThose are my sole components. I was debating whether to update this system to almost its limit and spend less, or go a little further and go for the bigger newer, but also more expensive hardware. This is what I planned to change the things in here too.
AMD XP 3200 (best processor the board supports) ($150)
ATI AIW X800XT 256MB ($300)
OCZ Titanium 2GB (2 x 1GB) ($300)$750 all together, would this be worth it? I think my system would be quite nice with those specs. The most intense game I play is BF2 and that is graphics heavy. I know the processor still sucks but my AMD2500 has done just fine with games, its my Graphics and memory that need the bigger upgrade. Does this look worth it to you? Let me know what you think.

Before spending that $700 on new parts, ask Google about refurbished PCs. You can find some great deals for that $700. I have purchased 3 pcs, 2 printers and 2 monitors that way and they all work great.

.. for 700 dollars you can build a new rig on your own.. I suggestion you do so.. with 700 you can make a totally new one that will run nicely

i reccommed doing the upgrade!! the more maxed-out a system's specs are the longer it will be before it needs to be replaced entirely!!
I drive an awesome 1972 Trans Am 455 Super Duty that gets about 8-10mpg, but thats a small price to pay for such awesomeness.

i realy dont think so there is not much point getting another 32 bit system
also if that CPU the XP is not a barton its not realy going to speed you up at all as the L2 cash on the semptrons is so tiny
that barton has 512MB L2 thats fine and will run almost anything
and if your FSB is locable on your motherbord (i think it is with the NF2 chipset) then you cna run that barton at 3000+ anyways
if you must upgrade go for just 1GB of ramand a 6600GT 256MB XFX it is about the same speed at the X800XT but supports newer things like pixel shader 3

UMMM..... A X700 is compairable to the 6600GT... The X800XT is a very good card, much better than the 6600GT If im not mistaken.. Some people compair 9800Pros with 6600GT's.
Anyways I do agree with the whole 32 bit oldness thing.. I would also like to do the same thing wth my rig as it is also socket A but the only thing stopping me (Other than having no money) is that 64Bit machines are popping up everywhere, 64bit Windows XP is already out and Windows Vista will no doubt come itn the 64Bit flavour. There are bound to be new programs you are gonna want that may only be available on 64Bit..
But with that said, I agree that after these upgrades you will have a bit of a beast there. And it probbably handle most games on high(ish) settings... But 64Bit..
Anyways its up to you, It would be grate to fix up this system but it isnt gonna be very future proof.. Which sorta kills me to say as I love my socket A system : ) LOL

Sempron 2600+ OC 2.2GHz
1Gb DDR4002x512Mb
2X 80Gb 7200Rpm
nVIDIA FX5500 128Mb The Devil '64bit'
Damn Microsoft...
DIE STEAM DIE!

I am sory i did not read right yeh the 800 is better than teh 6600GT but with that rig the speed wil me waisted
9800Pros with 6600GT's. :P dont think so"Kernrel Panic"

You cant really "future proof" a computer seeing how technology is constantly becoming better leaving older computers obsolete.

Get the 6600 GT AGP card. That 5200 is the only real bottleneck right now for you.
as a nicety, i'd get another 512 megs of RAM and try running in it dual channel mode
