I never tried it, but it looks like a con.

They claim that it "may even increase the stability of your browser!" First problem, the claim that it "may." Is the software written to make IE more stable or not? Is this phantom stability some kind of miracle by-product? This looks like one of many bogus claims.

I would guess that this really is a program to precache the site you are going to so pages load faster when you click the links. Basically, it would keep the modem downloading all the time for things you might not need.

When you click a link, the page displays faster because it is already in your cache. This cache is probably part of the download resume feature. Then they throw in some kind of pop-up blocker that they claim may block most spyware (I won't get into the problems with this claim).

The bottom line is that Dial Up cannot come close to the speed of DSL or Cable. Any claims to the contrary are false.

PC World reviewed it. According tot hem, it's an overstatement, but it does speed dial-up. Apparently, it works by keeping the popup ans banner ads from downloading, saving you dl time.

Here;s the URL for the PC World article:

Proxyconn is a fine piece of software. However, it doesn't speed up your internet connection to the speed of dsl or cable, but it makes web pages load a lot quicker. The really cool feature that goes along with this program is the ability to not download large imagine size on web site. What it will do, it will download images in poor quality, good quality, excellent quality, or it can download images at no loss of format. If images is the reason you are on the internet, then this program won't help you out a lot. The reason I like this program is that it eliminates all those large images that are useless. Usually the pictures on web sites are not to anyones concern on web sites, unless it is girls in bikinis, or even better girls nude, right everyone. Well, most guys like that sort of stuff. They pause when they see a good looking girl in a bikini. They really pause for several seconds when they see an amazingly good looking girl nude.

Anyway, to eliminate all those images that takes forever to load on a web page that causes a web site not to load, this program is for you.

This program also connects you into a proxy server, so it also helps with keeping your identity a little more secure. When someone tries to find out who you are, they can only see, the proxy server information unless they know how to by-pass that.

I use it because it speeds up my web page browsing, and my identity is pretty secure why using it. Like when I post right now, the ip number that will be left when I press the submit follow up button will be a proxyconn server address.

Also, like other people said up above, this program does cache internet files so when you load that web site again, you will load really fast.

Check the program out for 7 days, the program is free to use for that period, after that, you have to pay like 8 dollars and something, close to $9.00 a month

Hope this information help others out, if you want to ask anything about this program, give me an e-mail and I will respond.

I currently have Proxyconn Accelerator Plus v. 2.85 installed and running. Looking only at speed differences, my experience has been:

1~-File downloads are not accelerated.

2~-Pictures will download faster if you set Proxyconn to degrade the pictures' quality.

3~-Web pages that contain images that Proxyconn has in cache will load faster.

As Kevin iterated, Proxyconn does not increase your internet connection speed.
If you're looking for faster file download rates, I recommend looking elsewhere. If you're looking for faster web page loading, and don't mind lower quality pictures, Proxyconn could be what you want.

As for Kevin's tangent about "most guys" appreciating pictures of women dressed in less cloth than is normally expected in society, I do wonder what statistics this statement is based upon. As a "guy", I certainly don't appreciate it when women dress in less-than-appropriate amounts of clothing, arrogantly demanding attention to their figure. I believe there is a common misunderstanding among women that dress in such a fashion to draw attention, and that is the ill-concieved notion that dressing in such a way will give a woman the attention she wants. It will certainly stimulate primal sexual attractions within some men, but love and affection are not directly related to sex appeal. Do women that dress this way really only want sexual relations with men? Somehow I doubt it, and thus I encourage women who are willing to listen to an honest male observation: If you want love and affection, don't dress in a sexually provacative fashion.
