Specs: Windows 7
I have a Dell Studio laptop running windows 7 and a HP officejet J4580 wireless printer. Do I need a router (type) to hook up a wireless connection betweenthe two?

Technically, no you don't, all you need is a Wireless Access Point. But as wireless routers incorporate a wireless access point and wireless routers are likely to be cheaper than a stand alone wireless access point then a wireless router would be the better option. All you need to do disable router functions like DHCP and NAT if you don't need them.

However, if all you have is the one computer and it has a wireless interface you can set up an Ad-Hoc wireless connection between the two without buying any extra hardware.
