Do I have PC 6400 or PC 8500?

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.4 GHz / 3326 MB
I just bought a new motherboard with 2 2 GB memory. Now, the memory I bought was PC 8500 and the model number is OCZ2RPR10662G.

I got OCZ Memory:

Now, I opened up CPU-Z and it told me I have PC2-6400 Memory. Did Newegg send me the wrong memory?

My question is, do I have PC 8500 memory or did I mistakenly get PC 6400?

"Did Newegg send me the wrong memory?"

Not if the model number on the RAM package is OCZ2RPR10662G.

It appears you have an Intel system? There currently are no Intel CPUs that "require" DDR2-1066 RAM. Which CPU do you have & what FSB speed does it run at?

BTW, have you tried entering the BIOS & manually configuring the memory settings?

Okay, I have a Quad Core Q6600 and it is NOT overclocked (the autodetection sucks for not adding it in).

What I did was I went in the BIOS and manually set the memory to DDR2-1066 and 266 MHz. I don't know weather that should make a difference since AUTO should have selected what the memory is. CPU-Z tells me the max bandwidth is PC 6400. The timings table has changed however from 266 to 533.

Must I change something else?

The Q6600 is a 1066MHz FSB CPU so for best performance, the RAM should run as DDR2-533 @ 266MHz.

Hey I figured out my issue:

Even though CPU-Z tells me that I have PC2-6400 Memory, I still have PC 8500 Memory.

However, since I have PC 8500, what capiblilities do I have over PC 6400?
