Display often blanks

Specs: Windows XP Home
Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 8400, P4 3.0 with original radeon x300 graphics card and a Dell 1905FP Flat Panel Monitor. Often when we turn on the computer the monitor doesnt display - the monitor is on, it works, just no picture. I then plug and unplug the DVI cable from the computer and generally it comes back on. If that doesnt work, I turn the computer off and on (by unplugging it) and that has so far always solved the problem. I am guessing it may be the graphics card but really have no expertise. Currently the monitor is hooked up with the DVI cable. Wondering what to do next? Do I replace the graphics card, do I try a VGA cable, or could it be something else? Thanks

if it is not under warranty , unplug it , open the case , pull the card & clean the contacts with a pencil eraser.
Blow the dust out of the rest of the case with a can of compressed air. Be careful of static charge, ground yourself on the case first.

Thanks for the quick reply. Still having same problem. I cleaned the inside with compressed air. However, I am not sure I used the eraser properly. I did not remove the card but used it on the male ends of the "socket" on the back of the computer where the DVI cable goes in. Couldn't figure out how to remove the card itself. Would welcome any other suggestions. Thanks again.
