Disk writing error while installing Win 7

Specs: Windows 7
I tried to reformat my asus laptop not sure what model but its got windows vista. the first few times i tried it went thru smoothly untill i got to the starting windows bit and it just freezes... the last time i tried to reformat it however the process stopped and in BIG red writiing ERROR poped up with a white screen behind.... what is wrong with my computer!!! please help!!!

Age of system?

It's either bad HDD (hard disk drive), or bad CD/DVD ROM, or bad CD/DVD Disc. Could be a different hardware issue as well (motherboard, HDD controller etc).

Detemine the Make of Hard drive (Hitachi, Toshiba, WD, Segate etc), by removing the hard drive from the laptop, it's easy. Then put it back in and test the HDD with the manufacturers HDD diagnostic tool via bootable CD or floppy, from their websites.

Yes, new HDDs can go bad. I see it ALL the time. Laptop HDDs suck, but just a lot.
