I used to have this harddrive on another computer as slave, but i changed the jumpers around to make it Master and put it in another computer. I can see the harddrive get recognized since I turned Quiet Boot off. However after it checks for all periphials, etc. it pops up a msg
"Disk read error"

is there anyway to fix this w/o reformatting the drive?

It probably doesn't have an operating system on it if it was a slave. Beyond that, most times you have to start fresh since the system it's now connected to is different.

You could put it in the other computer, copy the stuff you want to keep to the master drive,(skip programs, just docs, Pix etc) then put it back in the newer machine as master reformat and fo a fresh OS install.

Don't know. maybe a post to the linux forum would be more fruitful.

I do know that when creating dual boot machines that the oldest windows OS has to be installed first on the primany boot disk. That's just a microsoft thing but i can't imagine it interfering with the mandrake install, especially on a separate drive.
