Well is it the hard disk or the install disk that is producing the read errors?

It does seem to be a coincidence that this happened when you tried to reformat. I guess the question is, why did you do that? Was it because you were having problems like this?

Anyway, it sounds as if your technician doesn't know his job. A replacement hard disk (assuming that is the problem) is much cheaper than a replacement laptop. Did he explain what he thought the problem was; did he test the hard disk in another computer and determine that the fault lay elsewhere? If so, he should have explained to you what the problem was rather than just telling you to dispose of the laptop. If not, that was silly advice.

"disk read error"

If you successfully formatted the drive but didn't successfully install Windows, there's nothing on the HDD to read. Or it could be your HDD has failed.

Is your system able to boot off a CD?

You need a new hard drive, if it was giving you a disk read error on boot up, it is the hard disk. Sometimes the cd rom is having trouble reading a cd, but I suspect from what you say, this is not the cd rom. Make and ISO from seatool dos, and test the hard drive, a short and long generic test, if either fails, it's all over for that drive.

"am having the same ordeal"

Same as what?
We have no idea what that means unless you either tell us or give a link.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
