My hard drive crashed not too long ago and I restored it. Since then I have not had any problems of which to speak.

However a short while back I started getting a message at every boot that there are errors on my hard drive. It then runs scan disk in dos, as though I had not shut down properly, but then it continues to run a thorough scan disk in dos. Which to be perfectly honest I did not know was possible in dos.

Scandisk and norton sys works both failed to detect the errors once I am in windows so they wont repair them. I am thinking of formatting my HD and reinstalling windows so that it will write or skip over the bad sections of my hard drive. Does this sound like a good idea?

Also I am also thinking of replacing my hard drive. I know all the system specs, finding a replacement drive will not be a problem. I am pretty computer literate. I upgraded the ram on both mine and my fathers computers which just involved snapping in a chip. What difficulty level would you say replacing the hard drive is I know it's not snapping in a chip. Is this something I should let someone else do or could I take a stab at it with just instructions?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Disk errors at bootup. Go into theBios and make it read the H/d . ( Too long to explain why).
TO replace the H/D, open case, remove old H/D,(Should be 4 screws), remove power cable, remove Ide cable. Insert new drive then reverse of the above. power connection is always yellow out, providing the H/D is topside up in box. Ide cable red side = No1 pin.Fdisk, format(with the system command,i.e. /s.Boot and make the 1st boot = cd.rom, reboot, place win98 O/S in the cd and away you go! New H/D are always set in the factory to Master.

Sorry, forgot to say. Before you Fdisk you have to go into the Bios and make sure it picks up the new drive.
