Disk drive not working

Subject: Disk drive not working
OS: XP pro
CPU/Ram: intel core 2 duo 2.13ghz
Comment:
I have a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D cd/dvd drive

When I place a CD, data or music, or a DVD into the drive it takes a very long time for anything to happen. This includes right clicking and checking properties, any autoplay programs for installation, anything.

With music disks it comes up quick enough but when i play the music its really choppy and poor quality. this has nothing to do with the disks, ive used these disks before and they work fine on other computers.

DVD's have the same problem, they play with a really poor FPS. DVD region is correct.

this problem has only started recently, had no problems before this. firmware is latest, driver version is 5.1.2535.0

Running XP pro, service pack 2
intel core 2 duo 2.13 Ghz
2GB ram
geforce 7600GT

If running a lenscleaner through the drive doesn't improve things then replace the drive. Lasers wear out.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

richard is spot on get a lense cleaner and check it.

but also try looking at the cables makes sure there all conected properly(doubt this is a problem but cover the basics)
another thing to watch is does your hard drive acess itself alot at the same time?
not sure about cds but i do know dvds use the hard disk as a memory buffer so if the disk is having problems this can have a knock on effect of making the dvd jerky. this could be casues by too full or the drive failing or processes in the background taking up too much mem.

all text needs typos. There there for the reader to find,to distract them from the total lack of content.
google it! wasnt the answer to the question i asked so dont be dense and give me that repl
