went to load pc got an error disk boot failure plse insert system disk and press enter

chked in bios and the hd had been recognised

Time for a round of fixboot, chkdsk and maybe fixmbr via the recovery console (that is what it's for)

use your MS XP cd or the 6 set XP boot floppys- do a google for Recovery Console. If you do not understand what you read post back with questions.

Yes, check out the hard drive. If the Recovery Console is too complicated, download a diagnostic from the hard drive manufacturer's web site.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
