disk boot fail and no hard drive is showing

Specs: Windows Vista
can i someone help me out im getting the "DISK BOOT FAILURE,INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" when i start my pc.but my pc wont let me boot from a dvd so i used a ipod but when i try boot it tells me i have no hard drive can someone tell me whats going on?

Your hard drive has either failed or lost it's boot files.

If it's failed, you need a new hard drive.
If it hasn't failed but has just lost some boot files (or they've been corrupted) you can repair that installation if you have a Microsoft Windows Vista DVD.

You probably can't boot from the DVD because it isnt configured as the "first boot device" in the BIOS Setup.
