Hi All,
A while ago i purchased a new motherboard, p4 process and new ram and a new graphics card. I set it all up and it has been orking like a charm until now, the following wierd things are happening;- the cd -rom drive sometimes (in fact now all the time) dosent appear in my computer and you can't type in its location in the address bar and acccess it - although you can open and close the drive.
- sometimes it hangs at the very first biops screen for a couple of minutes then it starts up normal - but the cd-rom drive is still missing especially after this has happend.
- it has started slowing down to a stage where it becomes un-usable, i have formatted not so long ago and re-installed everything, defraged scandisked and all seems to be working fine.
I have not touched the bios before all this started to happen and i cant see anything that has physically broken. Is there anything you can suggesat that will make my cd-burner work - oh and when i burn disks now it takes fo ever...
Thanks All
Slickblueman

Disconnect the power and IDE cables from the CDROM/burner and see if your boot problems improve. A faulty CDROM can exhibit some of the symptoms you describe. If the problem returns when you reconnect the drive then perhaps a firmware update will help.
