I am experiencing some problems with my SoundBlaster Live! card, when I attempted to reinstall it, it plan old quit. it just doesn't work. (does anyone know how to fix this? please keep in mind I have already tried a lot of the simple obvious fixes) and while I attempt fix this, i need some sound, but the only way to let the original internal sound card on the Mobo work, is to remove any other sound cards. i hate doing this, so is there a way i can disable the PCI slot it is in? or is there a way to disable the card?

First of all, what happened that you had to reinstall it?

What I would do is leave it in place...making sure it's seated properly in the PCI slot. Bootup in Safe mode. Go into Control Panel > System > Device Manager & remove all the listings under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"...with the exception of any listing for the modem.

Reboot & let Windows do it thing. You may need the sound drivers, so have the disk ready.

Hope it works.

OK...well, some people try to do that without going into safe mode & often times there are duplicate entries that don't show up in normal mode.

You wanna disable the soundcard? Take it out & you'll have no more problems with it.

You can't selectively disable PCI slots.

Well, first of all, Why do you need sound to fix the problem card? It would be better to have sound appear as an acknowledgement that what you have tried fixed it.

For troubleshooting PCI cards, try moving the card into a different slot. If slots are limited, remove a modem card and install the card in its place.

Please also remember that "obvious" to someone may not be so obvious to another. It is best to list what you have tried so we can help you better. Good Luck.
