OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: P4 - DDR 1MB
Model/Manufacturer: ABIT is7-E2G
Comment:

System crashed while emailing -- one long beep. Removed memory from DIMM2 slot and system works fine. I place the card from slot 2 into slot 1 and system booted with no problems. Either DDR RAM card will work in DIMM1 slot. Will not boot if slot 2 is used. Is the MB the problem?

Try going into Device manager and looking at the listings for System Devices. You should find a number of listings for memory controller. I am not familiar with current Intel memory controllers but you may find something there to hint at the problem. I think it is safe to remove all listings and reboot. Windows should find new hardware at the next startup. If the controllers are something other than Intel you may need MBoard chipset drivers available.

If this is an actual hardware failure I would imagine some of the controllers will not reinstall properly, if at all. Proceed with caution.
