Hi.

My motherboard is made by MSI with a VIA chipset. The model number is MS-6389. When I look on the MSI website, my motherboard is no where to be found, not even in the discontinued section or archives. What the crap?
I am looking to update my BIOS. It is made by american megatrends, the BIOS ID is

63-0518-009999-00101111-070199-AMIBIOS-0AAWVP06

http://www.americanmegatrends.com/support/bios.cfm#three
So im looking on the AMerican megatrends site, and I go under AMIBIOS and I determined that my BIOS is an Evaluation BIOS for a Taiwanese manufacturer. What the heck does that mean? Now it says to move to step 3. This is where I am stuck, where can I find my serial number??? Help is appreciated. Thanks.

Gateway used that board. If this is a Gateway computer you might search their website.

Here's your mainboard"

And this is the page you enter your Gateway's serial number to find the correct downloads.

If that board just came out of a Gateway, it's going to be much harder. You need the pc's serial number to get very far on their site.

Good luck,

MicroStar actively solicits through its own web pages resellers interested in MicroStar discontinued, etc., boards. My MS-6389 came through that route. It's not associated with any Gateway serial number because it has never seen Gateway. The bios needs updating before W2k or XP will install. It also behaves squirrely under WIN98 and MicroStar doesn't acknowledge its existence, so I share Chad's problem.
