I would say in all honesty, you need to look at a few WHAT CAMCORDER magazines. Or check some reviews out.
We are all very helpful here. But you really need a camcorder buff to give you good advice on a large cost item like that!
One thing... I used to sell digital cameras/camcorders and as far as I knew in 1998 the Sony's with the three CCDs were the top notch then. But 4 year old datat isn't much good, except that these things were tv broadcast quality almost and were around $5000 each.
As above says, it is all about CCD's, the little EYEs of the camera. That's all I know.
