This may seem a stupid question, but does anyone know if it possible to modify a digital picture frame so it could be used as pc monitor.

Possibly, though they appear to be similar to "hole-in-the-wall" Cash Machines in principle. Therefore you would need to rip out the mainboard, and find some way to take the 'DVi or VGA' Signal from the PC and display on the screen. Not practical IMHO!
