Subject: Different Memory problemOS: xp pr sp2CPU/Ram: 512 |
Comment: Hi, If you have two different Memory brand in your motherboard, is it bad or is it ok?. I'm planing to build my own computer and my first memory brand is crucial (is it a good brand?) and the second one i'm planing to have is OCZ. Is it safe puting them in the motherboard rather than same brand is better? Is there some cons and pros argument on this? Can someone explain please... Thanks alot

Reply: (edit)In theory if the ram is the same speed rating, same cas latency and same chip specification the brand on the outside should not make a difference. In practice two sticks from different makers may or may not play nice together. Even from different batches by the same maker have been known to conflict. You will not know until you try, but my recommendation would be to get another crucial stick as they absolutely guarantee that what they recommend for your board will work. I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Reply: (edit)It has been my experience to always stick with good quailty, (Curcial, Kingtson)same brand and high PC- like PC 3200 or better and that always seemed to be compiatble- though i am not a memory expert by any means. I have Kingtson 3200 in one machine and Curcial 3400 in the other and both are fine... ASUS K8V-X 1 gig RAM, Redaon 9250 AMD 64 3400 Athlon Thermaltak SVKing Case Zalman CNP Heatsink
