okay, so i've been wondering for a while what the difference is between DVD+R and DVD-R (also the difference between DVD+RW and DVD-RW, although i already know the difference between R and RW).
anyone that can explain it in small words?

DVD+R Appeals better to some manufacturers better then others, and pretty much vice versa for DVD-R.
Quotes from webopedia:
DVD+R and DVD+RW formats are supported by Philips, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha and other.
DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM are supported by Panasonic, Toshiba, Apple Computer, Hitachi, NEC, Pioneer, Samsung and Sharp. Can I do quotes from other sites? And can I rampage around this forum posting answers? I'm not garaunteeing i'm entirely right, but it just seems... bizare answering everything, and I'm not saying I know everything, because I can't remember anything... >_< If that makes any sense!
