Did I kill my computer?

I have an HP XT933 computer. The other day the computer screen went blue and said I was missing something (I don't remember what). I also noticed that there was a strong burning smell coming from it. I turned it off and waited for the smell to die down. When I went back to try to power it up again, it "turned on" but the power supply fan wasn't running and the monitor was blank (only the orange light was on). I plugged in a different computer to the monitor and it worked just fine. I got a new power supply for the messed up computer and when I connected that, I have the same problem, however the power supply fan is now working. I popped a working memory chip into it, but the same problem still existed. Any ideas on what else can be wrong?

well, could be it died and you didn't kill it. harddrive could be fried. or motherboard. if you can boot up into BIOS i'd say that your mobo is still functional. if not, you may need a new board. kinda hard to identify but those are suggestions. i had the same burn smell once and my hd had failed. luckily it was under warranty and i got a better one from that happening. try taking the hd out and running it as a slave on other PC, see if you can access any data. if hd tests out, then mainboard would be cause of it all. if you need a new one, try here : www.pricewatch.com

I think the previous psu went bad and fried either the motherboard or cpu or both.
