CPU: AMD XP 3000
OS: Wins XP
RAM: DDR PC3200
Motherboard: DFI Infinity II ultra

Hello, I purchased the DFI Infinity II Ultra motherboard and I have 2 problems. I used to have an ECS board, and when I installed my AMD 3000 CPU I had to set the CPU frequency to 166 so that it would read as an AMD XP 3000. It appears that on the DFI motherboard it is set at 100mhz and if I try to change it to anything higher my PC wont boot up. The only way my PC boots up is if it is left on the slow 100mhz setting and my AMD XP 3000 reads as an AMD althon 1.3ghz.

Another problem is that my LAN will not work for it, on the ECS motherboard it has an option to enable or disable LAN, but on the DIF it doesnt. I tried the driver disk, everything but I do not see anything related to LAN so I can connect to the internet.

Please tell me how I can set the motherboard to read my CPU correctly and how to get the LAN to work. Thanks

Ok, one problem down, one to go. I figured out that the Nvida Drivers on the disc were the LAN drivers, I mistaken "Nvidia Drivers" for the usual graphics drivers only. Now I still have the problem with my AMD XP 3000 CPU reading as an AMD Althon 1.3ghz. Please help

It is very difficult to see, but if you look in-between the power circuitry and the northbridge heatsink, there is a red jumper assigned to control the default frequency of the processor FSB. You must leave the jumper cap on the jumper if your processor has a 266/333/400MHz default FSB.

Hello, I havent made any changes to the motherboard, so are you suggesting that I need to change these jumpers, or leave them? Also, how do I know which frequency is correct? I do not see them labeled and the instruction manual for this mobo is awful. Sorry but this is just frustrating me

Ok, I found the red cap, and it is on like it has always been. As a test I tried removing it and my PC wouldnt boot. Please someone help, all of the PC wizards here cannot tell me how I can get this motherboard to read the AMD XP 3000 as an AMD XP 3000?

Are you changing the multiplier when you increase the frequency? I `think' that CPU should run at 166mhz with a 13X multiplier.

By the way it will not be running at 3000. The 3000 means it is comparable to a pentium 3000.

Hello, yes I understand that it will not be running at 3000mhz, however the CPu is being reconized as AMD 1.3ghz instead of the AMD XP 3000 2.1ghz (or whatever it is) Ahhh, the multiplier, I bet that is the answer I have been looking for, I didnt really understand what that "X" meant. Their user manual SUCKS! I never am the type to complain and moan but man after spending $100 dollars I need to contact this company and suggest them to write a manual that has more then just pictures of the motherboard.

Ok, I set the FSB to 166 and multiplier to 13X and it wouldnt boot up. However I think you are on to something, could you give me some other FSB and multiplier settings?

Well, you could try decreasing the multiplier and/or dropping the freq down to 133. Maybe someone else has some suggestions.

I have been working on this for 8 hours straight, its like trying to figure out a combination lock because there are so many variables to consider. If I put the CPU freq at 133 then it freezes. This is so weird, because when I used two different ECS boards, all I had to do was set FSB to 166 and thats it. I have no idea what the heck is going on here

I don't know what else to suggest, except it `could' be a RAM problem. Maybe the RAM is unable to run above 100mhz. I hate to add another variable, but ...
