devices not detected

Specs: Windows XP, intel 3.06

Well i just built my first computer... and when i boot up the first info that flashes across the screen says it does not detect any devices in primary or secondary drives ... master or slave... but when i get in windows xp i am still able to use my drives... so im asking... is this a problem? and if it is how do i fix it... is it just that i need a different config with the IDE cables?...

Hi there,
maybe you've got the jumper settings of the storage devices wrong. Try making sure that the jumper settings are appropriate for the right type of connection. (e.g. HD - primary master, CD/CD-RW - secondary master, DVD ROM primary slave... etc.)

Check to see if your IDE controllers are set to auto detect in BIOS.

I doubt it's the jumpers but to be sure check them.
And take a close look because some drives (especially Western Digital) have different settings for master with/without slave !!!

Everything else is already mentioned above!

It's probably just saying that it doesn't detect any devices on the connections that aren't being used.
