hi if nothing is plugged into the Serial Port then should the Device Manager say that the Serial Port exists and if so under what name.

click the + next to ports and it should say
communications port(com1)
communications port(com2)
printer port(Lpt1)


(if these are enabled in bios/setup that is,otherwise check your modem properties if internal, it could be using one of these when the port is disabled in bios)

when i went to the device manager i got all of them exept communications port(com2) what does this mean and no i dont have an internal modem.

Internal modems are usually COMM 3 or 4 go to CONTROL PANEL and open up MODEM & ... it will list your Modem and what COMMS port it is sitting at, if you click on properties for the modem it will also offer to run basic diagnostic checks.......
