hi,
im trying to get windows to detect a maxtor drive i have connected to my mobo via a ide to sata converter, however i cant seem to get it to work.
i must admit was a little confused with how to connect the drive and converter and i wonder if this is where my problem lies.

so far i have a normal power conenctor to the back of the HDD, and then have a sata cable in the converter and plugged into my mobo; this is where im a little confused there is what looks like a FDD slot for power on the converter as well.
i have put the FDD power cable into here and still no joy in getting the HDD detected.

i have treid different combinations with this FDD connector on the converter but still no luck. i know the drive must be getting something from one of the leeds as it is spinning as you can hear / feel it.
any help wold be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

It looks like you need power plug for the hard drive and the adapter. Use FDD power plug for the adapter and standard plug for HDD, hook up SATA cable to adapter and motherboard and it should be detected in the Bios. If Bios can't see it, it could be a bad adapter. I wonder if the drive needs to be configured as master, slave or cable select?? Did you receive any documentation with it?

SysLock, you are a gem!
i retried it with both the FDD and the standard plug for the HDD, and it wasn't detected in the BIOS, so then i double checked the jumper settings and it turned out that it wasn't set to master.
After changing it to master (i thought it was but turns out i was reading the diagram backwards!) i double checked all cables were seated correctly and hay presto its detected.
Thanks again!
