I recently purchased a used laptop with a 15G hard drive, sold as is of course. Any way the system BIOS does not recognize the hard drive only the CD-rom and floppy. I place that same hard drive into my other laptop and it is recognized and boots up fine. The laptop is a IBM iSeries Thinkpad.

Don't forget the cable. When you switched the drive, did you use the same cable, (from the non-recognizing system) or the cable in the laptop which recognized it? And as stated, check your pins and controller(s).

I have to admit I've only dabbled in laptops, so I may be way out here. I'm just suggesting basic trouble shooting techniques, so sorry if this doesn't apply. But if you can switch things between the two laptops, (drives/cables) you should be able to narrow down the problem. HTH

I did carefully check the pins. I also used the same cables from the laptop I used to troubleshoot with. I am starting to gear towards the bad controller. Thanks for the replies, I really appreicate them.
