Hi. I have been having an intermittent problem the last couple of weeks. When my computer is completely turned off, the next time I attempt to power it on, the fans will start for a few seconds and then stop. If I turn the switch off for the power supply, wait a few seconds, and then try to turn it on again, sometimes it will start properly. Other times it will repeat the problem.
I have a PC Power and Cooling 550w PSU with an ASUS motherboard, 2GB of Corsair RAM, NVIDIA 7800 GTX 512MB Graphics card and an AMD 64X2 cpu.
Does this sound more like a power supply going bad or the motherboard?
When the computer boots properly, there are no problems whatsoever. I can do a windows reboot with no problems and the computer will run for days.
The problem only occurs after the computer is completely turned off. If I wait a few hours after the computer is completely powered down, then I can usually power on with no problems.
Any input that you guys have would be appreciated.

Try re-seating the motherboard power connector. Remove all power from the box first, and be careful not to cause more damage. Ground yourself before touching anything inside.

I'll give the re-seating tip a try and see if that helps. The psu is about 5 years old so I figured that may be the culprit, but wanted to be more confident before replacing it. Why spend the $$ on the psu if the mobo needs replacing.
Thanks for the input.

Ok, so we tested the PSU and it was the problem.
Ordered and received a new PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 PSU.
Installed the new PSU.
Connected the 24-pin connector to the motherboard first, then the 4pin connector.
Next, connected the hard drive sata connector, then the PCI-express connector to the graphics card. Finally, connected the DVD drive.
Nothing will turn on. No fans, no beeps, nothing.
The green LED light DOES turn on, but thats it.
Did I forget something? Highly possible, but I'm pretty sure I didnt.
Or did they send me a bum PSU? I've heard that happens from time to time.Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

try to remove the ram and boot
do you hear anything ???
make sure the psu matches the mobo requirements
our patience is big

Thanks for the input. Turns out it was just a bad psu. Sent it back, received a replacement.
Everything is working fine now.
